Torties and Torbies

of Hobbes House

(listed alphabetically)

Torties or Tortoiseshell cats are cats whose coloring is a flecked mixture of black and orange sometimes with some white (usually called 'Tortie with white')  Torbies have the Tortoiseshell coloring with Tabby stripes (the stripes are usually on the legs, tail and tummy).  Torties and Torbies are always female.  Sometimes they are accused of having 'tortietudes'.  Essentially when a tortie thinks it's time to play - it's playtime, time to cuddle - it's cuddle time and then sometimes they want some alone time.  They march to their own drummer - all in all I think torties and torbies are beautiful kitties and a delightful addition to any home.

Callie

Domestic Short  Hair - Torbie

Female

Estimated Date of Birth  May 1, 2008

Many people would call Callie a calico.  In reality she's a 'torbie'.  A torbie is a tortoiseshell tabby.  I'm sure you can easily see her tortoiseshell coloring but can you spot her tabby stripes?   Needless to say she's a beautiful kitten!

Callie is shyer and more reserved than most other kittens.  She needs to go to a home that will love her and be patient with her while she adjusts.  I think Callie would enjoy a home with another cat or kitten in it.

While she starts out shy and reserved she does like to be held and  will even fall asleep in  your lap!

Cedar

Domestic Medium  Hair - Tortie

Female

Estimated Date of Birth  April 24, 2008

Cedar is a medium haired Tortoiseshell or "Tortie".  I'm sure you can tell from her pictures she's a stunning little girl!

Cedar and her siblings Juniper and Forrest were rescued when they were close to 8 weeks old.  They came in scared but have made a lot of progress.

Cedar is the most reserved of the group (not overly surprising she is after all a tortie - a coloring known for having their own plan) .  She does like to be pet and will sit on your lap and let you hold her.  However she needs to go to a family that will be patient with her while she adjusts to a new home.  She's not a fully confident outgoing kitten....yet.     However she's got it in her to be a total love once she feels comfortable with a new place and people.

Cedar is the 'look before you leap' type.  She likes to watch her brothers - to see how new adventures/ experiences go for them - before she 'takes the plunge' so to speak.

Cedar is great with other kitties but would probably run from small children.

Many families will be tempted to adopt Cedar based on her looks.  We really want just the right family for this wonderful little girl.  One with lots of patience and love.  Cedar will require a slower than usual introduction to a new household.  Obviously we'll walk the lucky family through it step by step!

Gazelle

Domestic Short  Hair - Dilute Tortie

Female

Estimated Date of Birth  May 1, 2008

Gazelle is a beautiful 'unique' dilute tortie.  That means instead of the usual tortie coloring she's got lighter colors - her fur is gray and peach!  As she gets older the peach will stand out more and more.   It's stunning coloring and kind of hard to get a good picture of.

Gazelle is one of those sweet kittens that loves to make biscuits and purr a lot!  She's a wonderful girl - playful with her brothers and yet enjoys 'people' company!

If you're looking for a beautiful, playful kitten look no further than our beautiful Gazelle!

Lola - Adoption Pending!

Domestic Short  Hair - Tortie

Male

Estimated Date of Birth  May 15, 2008

Lola and her siblings Tarzan, Peanut, Ash, Romeo and Spanky were all dumped in 90 degree heat in a sealed black box back by a dumpster at our vet's office.  By sheer luck they were discovered just in the nick of time!  All of the kittens needed extensive nursing back to health.   They are now happy, healthy kittens that are ready for their forever homes!

Adorable Lola is missing an eye.  When she was rescued her eye was bulging out of it's socket and sadly it couldn't be saved.  I, personally think it gives her a rather unique look.

Little Lola is just a sweetheart of a kitten!  She enjoys all of the usual kitten activities - pouncing and playing with her siblings and getting attention from people!

Rosella

Domestic Short Hair - Dilute Torbie with White

Female

Date of Birth  April 14, 2003

Hello.  My name is Rosella (but you can call me Rosie) and I am the sweetest kitty ever.  I am a very special girl.  I have 4 white paws and a white chest and tummy...but the rest of me is a diluted torbie - I am truly beautiful!

I LOVE attention.  I have very loud purrs and I will snuggle very closely with you.  I have also started a new trick with my foster mom that I like to do...sometimes when she's sitting on the couch, I like to sit on her shoulders and get my face just as close to hers as I possibly can.  I will even give you sweet nibble kisses ever so gently just to tell you how much I like you.  Naturally I'm a lap kitty - I like nothing better than to cuddle up on you.

This next part is kind of sad ... when I was found, my collar was growing into the fur on my neck - I was abandoned, alone and hungry...but still so very sweet!  As you can see by my 'pink ribbon', I am a survivor of cancer.  During my spay surgery, they found a small mass, and although they don't really call it breast cancer when found in kitties, that's what it was.  The surgeon did a great job in getting the tumor ... it was on the small side (less than 1 cm) which is good for my prognosis.  They also verified that the area around the tumor was cancer free, so they were sure they removed it all.  Although they can't guarantee that the cancer won't return, the fact that it was small and completely removed do side in my favor.

I will make you a wonderful new friend and companion.  Please give me a chance.  You will be so glad you did!

Snickerdoodle

Domestic Short Hair - Tortie

Female

Estimated Date of Birth   4/22/07

Beautiful Snickerdoodle is a stunning tortie.  She's almost golden in color!   Snickerdoodle has a long body and tail giving you the long lean impression.  She has all black whiskers except for one white one.  I know it sounds like a strange thing to mention but it's really quite cute to see that single white whisker on her !

Snickerdoodle isn't just a beautiful kitty - she's got a great personality to match.  Snickers (as we call her around the house) is a smart kitty she's figured out how to position herself to get the most attention.  She loves to be petted and will make sure she's in a good 'spot' so you can conveniently love on her.  If I'm petting another kitty she'll run on over to join in.  If I'm walking around the bedroom she'll hop up onto the bed so it's 'easier' for me to pet her.  Smart girl!

Snickers loves other kitties and likes to be loved on by anyone with a hand.  She is however a little slower to adjust to new surroundings.  Once she feels at home  you can see what a love she is.  Sometimes kitties that adjust slower make the best friends!!

So if you have room in your heart and your home for this sweet girl - let us know!   We'd love to introduce you.

Topaz

Domestic Short Hair - Torbie with White

Female

Date of Birth November 15, 2006

As you can see from her pictures Topaz is just too cute!  Her beautiful tortie coloring and her tabby stripes give her that unique torbie look.

Topaz came into our program as a young kitten.  She loves attention - anytime I go near her she stands up and wants me to pet her.  In fact she  loves it so much her long slender tail quivers with excitement and she rewards me with a wonderful PURR!  Topaz seeks out attention when she really wants it - she'll hop up onto my computer desk and walk back and forth while I pet her.  And if I'm going upstairs she'll position herself at the bottom so I can pet her and then when I start to walk up the stairs she'll run up ahead of me and stop at the top so I can pet her some more.

Topaz loves other kitties and gets along well with our dog.  She will compete with other kitties for your attention.

Topaz is a love of a kitty who needs a home that will appreciate her for who she is - a cat who loves affection and wants (even craves) to be pet but not picked up or held.
